Colonel Grant could feel himself getting sicker, and getting colder, as they continued through the facility. He knew that enough time had passed, that the adrenaline in his body would begin to be used up and no longer be replaced, and that his body would start to come down from his ‘high’ from the adrenaline and pain killers. Worse yet, he had a horrible sickening feeling that part of his current illness was that the damage to his leg had caused the poison to begin to leak into his system; if that was true, he knew he’d be lucky if he made it back to his ship.
Regardless, now wasn’t the time to worry about him, he needed to get his people the hell out of here. He struggled to help balance his weight against the small frame of the Doctor, every so often stumbling and trying not to take Sabina down with him.
They got to the hanger door, and found it unlocked, which concerned the Colonel’s tactical mind set, at the least it should have been locked… But, with time surely not on their side (as if it ever was), the group continued on and headed inside; again, finding it odd, now there was a shuttle just sitting there. Samuel watched as the group approached it, and nodded at Bob’s forethought about it possibly being a trap; at least the Chief wasn’t completely numb to tactical protocol.
Being ready to get the wounded into the shuttle, himself included, they had all gotten too close to the shuttle bay door, as they never expected it to be occupied. When the door opened, Sam didn’t even get a chance to do anything (he was unarmed at the moment), not that he was in any condition in the first place. But, before he could react or give any orders, he felt himself pulled hard to the side, and almost crashed to the ground with the Doctor. He cringed in pain, as his broken collar bone shifted with the yank, but didn’t mind the pain to much as he knew it probably saved his life; and their ‘little doctor’ kept gaining prestige in his eyes as he saw her in action time and time again, never shying away from her duty and holding her own.
With the quick skirmish over, not taking long with Sabal right there, they all boarded the shuttle, and with their new found ‘pilot’ at the controls, lifted off and darted quickly away from the planet. Sam noticed that Bob seemed to be struggling, but couldn’t tell why, everyone seemed to be hurt in one manner or another, and he could understand why too, so he didn’t think much of it. He saw him activate the self-destruct via his tri-corder, and Samuel turned to look at a sensor reading from a rear unit, showing the planet. A rather large mushroom cloud, in addition to a blinding flash, filled the entire screen, and Samuel found himself saying a silent prayer for all those that died in that place; secondary explosions could be seen detonating through the remaining acreage of the compound.
It wasn’t until he heard Bob ask for the Doctor that caused him to turn back quickly, just in time to see Bob laying face down on the decking of the shuttle; Doctor Jackson was there in a flash. Samuel was worried, he had no idea what Bob’s issue was, but considering what they’d gone through, he was surprised he hadn’t had any issues earlier. He kept forgetting that Bob was so much older, as their ‘years’ were different then humans, and that he was considered an ‘old fish’. He still believed that Chief Murkeye should be at a station somewhere, or back teaching at The Academy, his knowledge and theory ability way above that of those that ‘gallop’ around the galaxy; but this was what he seemed to love to do, so Samuel respected him for it. That was all irrelevant at the moment, as he hoped he was alright.
Samuel fought to keep his stomach in check, but the nausea and burning sensation was hard to deal with, and he laid his head back and tried not to close his eyes; he knew from long experience that if he passed out, especially in his condition, he may not wake up. He breathed heavily and hoped that his ship was still in one piece and would at least be a refugee for them.

* Cold Harbor Story / Action * Situation: In the panic of their leaders sudden ‘break down’, the remaining Borg drones throughout the facility seemed to simply ‘rout’, and make an exit of the facility as quickly as their little augmented legs would take them; there simply seemed no other choice. Much like the Away Team, the drones fled to the hanger bay in the Outpost to board what shuttles they could and abandon the Outpost and planet as quickly as possible; not even aware of the self-destruct that had been put into play by the crew of The Cold Harbor. It was actually surprising that they didn’t run into more drones inside the hanger, aside from the 4 on the shuttle that they wanted to use, but everyone was too tunnel visioned to know any the wiser. With the Away Team aboard the shuttle, and heading back to The Cold Harbor at best possible speed, the explosion that was caused completely obliterated the facility. It wasn’t just the explosives and the pre-existing self-destruct mechanism, but the additional mass power generators and the closeness of the gas fissures and molten core, literally fueled the fire; leaving nothing but a few kilometer crater behind it. The size of the blast even destroyed a couple of the fleeing shuttle craft filled with the fleeing Borg. The Cold Harbor, in one piece (barely) but obviously heavily damaged due to the space battle and Lt. Tyler’s radical defense tactic to destroy the boarders, still displayed that it had power; both nacelles glowing, albeit lightly. She’d have internal power, through the majority of her decks, but over 60% of the power demand was being provided by emergency battery back-ups, as the Warp Core was off-line. With effort and care, she’d be able to pull ¼ impulse and sustain emergency force fields, but had no shielding or weapons; there simply wasn’t enough power to go around. The shuttle would be able to dock in the hanger bay (or the transporters could be used on the shuttle to send them over, but The Cold Harbors transporters would be off line), and would find that the ship was filled with battle damage, Borg and Cold Harbor Crew casualties and bodies all throughout the ship. Obviously, Doctor Jackson needed to get Bob, Samuel and Zek to Sickbay, being the 3 most serious injured, the rest could find their own assignments to help out; not to mention someone needed to update Tyler and let them know they were back aboard. Sickbay, as was custom on most starships, was allotted its own back up systems, as it was considered a core critical area, so save for the battle damage and casualties already inside, most everything would still be working and usable.

Sabina checks, worried, then relieved when the Cordrazine worked. Her scans indicate that there was internal bleeding from his aorta and a clogged artery that had started the problems. "This is what you get for dodging physicals..." She mutters, but he couldn't hear her. She lets the good Nurse Khrys take over while she rummages around for the right equipment. (Remember that thingy that McCoy used to fix Checkov's injuries in the 4th movie? No surgery necessary, lol.) She finds the repair device and slaps it onto his chest to repair the injury and the clogged artery. "Ok, he'll be much better soon. Monitor him for changes, but there's nothing I else I can do right now." Once they get back to the ship, she can check him for any other heart or organ damage resulting from the heart attack.
As the device did it's job, she notices that the Colonel is looking sicker by the minute. She guesses that the implants that were keeping him from getting sick had been damaged, but there was nothing she could do until she got him into a private surgical ward. She pats him on the shoulder. "Just sit tight sir. Order whoever's driving this thing to hurry up." She gives him another pain reliever and something for the nausea. She goes back to Bob to check on him.

“Well if it’s ok with the Captain here, I figured we’d go down this hallway, hang a left, go down to the end of that hallway, and open the door, presto, hanger bay.” Bob tossed a glare at Zek just for spite. Zek didn’t give the fish the glory of a response.
Zek followed the group to the hanger bay covering their retreat. The doors were unlocked and unguarded, and same for the shuttle, this sent red alerts all through Zek’s head. There was no way that the drones would have dropped everything and left, but then again these weren’t your average run-of-the-mill Borg either. “This is too easy… Nick, Kael, Sabal help me give this thing a once over, Colonel, Zek, Doctor, Khrys, cover us, it should only take a few moments to make sure this thing isn’t going to blow up in our faces” Zek nodded at Bob and covered the door while the others went ahead to inspect the shuttle, and started walking, or limping rather, over when they were going to enter.
Zek’s eyes widened when they opened the shuttle door and there were four drones standing there. Bob took Kael down and Sabina followed suit by taking Sam down. That left Nick, Khrys, Sabal, and himself to fend off the drones. There was no way that Zek was going to let a pregnant woman do melee with a Borg drone, so Zek took flight, thinking it was good luck that the hanger bay had the height to do it in. In seconds he gained enough altitude to dive-bomb the drone going after Khrys, Zek caught the drone in its chest with the long talons on his good leg, and hit the drone with enough force to slam it to the ground. Blocking the other drones from Khrys, Zek reached over to slit the throat of the drone that was doubled over from Bob’s toolbox.
The fight wasn’t long, with Sabal and himself in the waste removal department. They boarded the shuttle, “Ok Nick, Get us out of here.” And Zek sat down next to Bear. They were out of the hanger bay and leaving the atmosphere when Bob activated the self-destruct of the outpost, the flash out the transparent aluminum was blinding. Zek looked away, and noticed Bob wasn’t doing very well, and he collapsed to the deck plating. Sabina and Khrys moved in to work on him, shouting out Doctor lingo. Zek knew Bob was in good hands and that he would be ok, so Zek turned to Sam, who also wasn’t looking very well. “Hey mate you ok? You look like hell.” Zek gave him a half smile, and eyed Sabina “Just milking it huh?” he added in a whisper.

Location: Hangar Bay
They made their way into the Hangar with relative ease, much to Nick's surprise. It felt too good to be true. And sure enough, upon opening the shuttle they found that it was too good to be true. Zek and Sabal made short work of the drones which occupied the shuttle and the group boarded it. Nick settled into the pilot's seat and within moments he had the shuttle out of the hangar bay and beating the fastest retreat away from the doomed facility ever. At the blast, the shuttle shook violently, but held it's own. They were far enough away from the explosion to not suffer the same fate as some of the fleeing Borg drones.
Nick held course to the Cold Harbor and as they approached he studied the ship. It looked like a piece of junk that had definitely seen much better days! Recent battle scars were evident and from the look of his readings the ship was barely powered. It was a minor miracle it was still kicking. "This must be some kind of cosmic joke..." Nick thought to himself. He knew better than to say anything however, most crew took a lot of pride in their ship, justified or not.
Nick hailed the Cold Harbor and got permission to dock, so he brought their shuttle in easily. There was a commotion going on with the chief engineer, but Nick was good about focusing on what he needed to do at the moment and tuning out distractions. He couldn't do anything about the Fish, but he could get them safely on board their ship.
After they docked it was a whirlwind of activity as the doctor rushed off her three seriously injured patients, leaving him with Khrys, Maggie and Kael. He looked at Kael, "So, seeing as you're the only crew member here, maybe you should take us to whoever is in charge in the Colonel's stead?"

Kael watched anxiously as they took Bob and the others off to the sickbay. She considered Bob to be a friend, probably the only person no the ship so far that she felt that way about, and so she was understandably concerned for his well being. She was brought back to the reality that there was still work to do by Nick's voice stating, "So, seeing as you're the only crew member here, maybe you should take us to whoever is in charge in the Colonel's stead?"
She gave him a quick nod of agreement and shed her special EVA suit, finally. even though it was a necessity, she hated it. The contraption always limited her sense and she felt more vulnerable in it as a result. Nick eyed her in surprise, he had not paid much attention to the person in the suit, just assumed that she was human, albeit a short human. Now it was apparent she wasn't. Kael addressed the group, "Come with me, we'll debrief Lt. Tyler and I will introduce you to him. From the look of things, they could probably use all the extra hands they can get."
She looked at Khrys, "I know you should probably technically meet the officer in charge first, but I think given the circumstances your help would be appreciated in the sickbay." Kael gave Khrys instruction on how to get there and the led the rest of the group off toward the bridge. They boarded the lift and waited to reach the top. Nick had seemed a bit intrigued by her, but she had not thought much of it since she was used to that by now. Finally he commented, "You're Lo'Ami right?"
Kaelg could not help but look at him in surprise, there were few who would know that, "Yes, I am..."
"I didn't think there were any Lo'Ami in Starfleet. I mean, last I heard they didn't like the Federation very much."
The lift doors slid open and Kael simply responded, "I'm the first," and then stepped out onto the bridge. She walked directly over to Branson and said, "The Outpost has been destroyed, but some of the borg have escaped. We've found some survivors who managed to not get assimilated." she motioned to the two behind her with a wave of her hand. "And there is a third down in sickbay, a nurse."

As soon as the shuttle arrives, she uses the shuttle's transporter to beam herself, Bob, Colonel Grant and Zek to sickbay. When they rematerialize, she looks around to see who's available. The nurses and the EMH had cleared sickbay up a lot during her absence. Most of the nurses looked shocked and/or happy that she'd returned. She hadn't been expecting to be back, either, and is surprised that she's glad to be back.
Sabina wastes no time. "Get the Colonel to a private surgical ward. Zek, I'll give you all the pain relievers you want if you keep an eye on the Colonel until I can get Bob's condition stabalized. If anything happens that doesn't look good, activate the EMH." The staff were getting Bob onto a biobed. Sabina goes over to the bed and reads the scans. The repair device had done it's job. She removes it and gives Bob a dose of anticlotting medications to prevent a second attack. Then she puts monitors on Bob. She also gives him a sedadive to keep him knocked out for a little while so he can recover. Finally, she turns to a nurse, "Watch him for irregular pulse or heart murmur. I'll be in the private surgical bay."
She leaves the nurse in charge of Bob. She grabs a fresh lab coat and puts it on over her old uniform on the way to the Colonel's room. She opens the door, then looks between him and Zek. "Sir, do you want Zek to be here for this?" She gives Zek a sympathetic and apologetic look. She knew that Zek needed to be treated too, but he was not an emergency case right now since she'd already healed his chest wound. The EMH could fix his broken leg, or he could wait.

Khrys walked among the others towards the hanger bay, so much had happened in the past few days, it was kind of hard to digest that they just might get out of this. She was still lost in her thoughts when they approached the shuttle; sure enough life wasn’t that easy, as four drones emerge. Khrys froze, it was too much, and the only defense she put up was to cover her abdomen protectively. She knew she couldn’t run her legs refused, but out of nowhere came their chief of security, and smashed the drone that was about to attack her to the ground. She was barely able to get out a “thank you” and the battle was over.
They boarded the shuttle, and Khrys assisted the Doctor in anything she needed to keep the others comfortable. Khrys tuned to their Chief Engineer as he asked the weak question “Umm Doctor….?” Then collapses, Khrys rushes after the Doctor, over to him "I need inaprovaline, now! Prepare 25 cc's of Cordrazine too!" Khrys quickly prepares the inaprovaline and hands it to the Doctor, then does the same for the Cordrazine. The doctor worriedly checks his vitals, and then seems to relax a bit; the Cordrazine seemed to do the job of re-starting his heart. "This is what you get for dodging physicals..." Khrys heard the Doctor mutter under her breath, Khrys almost chuckled, but considering the Chief was still in critical condition, this was no laughing matter.
Doctor Jackson indicated that Khrys should take over; Khrys brought out her scanner and began monitoring him, he was bleeding internally from his aorta and a clogged artery that seems to have caused the initial heart attack. Dr. Jackson began rummaging around for something, finds the proper repair device, and slaps it onto his chest to repair the injury and the clogged artery. "Ok, he'll be much better soon. Monitor him for changes, but there's nothing I else I can do right now." Khrys nods, “Yes ma’am” she added in a calm, polite voice.
As soon as the shuttle arrived at the Cold Harbor, the Doctor uses the shuttle's transporter to beam herself, Bob, Colonel Grant and Zek to sickbay. Khrys packed up the med supplies and replaced them in their proper locations, and looked up when Nick spoke, "So, seeing as you're the only crew member here, maybe you should take us to whoever is in charge in the Colonel's stead?" After removing her EV suit Science Officer Giral'i addressed the group, "Come with me, we'll debrief Lt. Tyler and I will introduce you to him. From the look of things, they could probably use all the extra hands they can get." Then she turned to Khrys, "I know you should probably technically meet the officer in charge first, but I think given the circumstances your help would be appreciated in the sickbay." Khrys nodded again, “Looks like this ship has been through a lot, I’m sure the casualties are numerous and the Medical staff could use every hand.” Lt. Giral’i gave Khrys instructions on how to get to sickbay while she led the rest of the group off toward the bridge.
Once Khrys arrived in sickbay, Bob was already in a Bio-bed, the Colonel and the Captain were nowhere to be seen. Khrys went up to the Nurse in charge, “I’m Khrys Sa R’Nagt, a CRV nurse, where would you like me to start?” As soon as Khrys was given an assignment she went to work.

Branson would have been upset if he was truly human; to what had the Cold Harbor had become. Barely afloat and now seemed to perform as their tomb. From Main Engineering he stood there watching all those who had crumbled and that hadn’t stop working. He thought that this 1st mission had broken and or taught those who were meant to be here and who were the ones that could be rightfully called as CRV. Tyler was already making a list to transfer personnel off the ship and replace them with new officers to continue to train. He understood that the Cold Harbor was basically crippled and there was nearly nothing worth doing. He made the painful trek back to the Command Deck. He retransferred command back to the bridge and he gathered what the Cold Harbor could crap out. Seeing that it wasn’t completely dead in space but could at least push at quarter impulse. Branson made a course change and headed towards the planet. With the clear intent to use the Starship as a kamikaze on the Omicron Outpost with full knowledge on ether way that they all would be dead. As the damages on the Starship; Tyler would have no way of knowing that the away team were on their way and had made it aboard. He had already sent the Starship closer to the planet, however would have enough time to abort. Where Branson had no intention of aborting do to the nature of Doctor Jackson and the damn infection of Borg. Branson gets a comm. however it wasn’t a clear message and he did not quite hear what the officer was informing him. Apparently a shuttle was requesting to dock while Tyler didn’t have much concern what that was exactly.
From the rear he heard the Turbo Lift doors slid open followed by a voice. Branson quickly turned around holding on to his Phaser but still on the holster. He saw the small science officer from the Away Team walked towards and spoke to him. Kael had informed him of the events and the new crewmen to join them. He quickly moved away not saying a word to them to a console. Branson manage is discontinuing the descent to the planet but wasn’t completely out of danger. Where is the Colonel? And what is his status? Kael locate all new personnel and including Doctor Jackson, if she was liberated. They are to be detained in Sick Bay until I get a full report they are not infected by this perversion of Borg. I will not except anything but data; any deviation to my orders will be the immediate destruction to this ship. Branson was following orders of article 337 Gamma – Any unauthorized personnel with possible contamination regardless of any situation must be cleared before further actions are made. All he had to do was to press a command.

Location: Evacuation Shuttle, en-route back to The Cold Harbor
Samuel opened his eyes long enough to reassure himself that his people were doing okay, and when he saw the ‘anxiety’ leave Sabina’s face as she knelt over Bob, Sam felt it too; he’d be okay, and that’s what mattered. Immediately feeling sick again, he closed his eyes and threw his head back against the bulkhead, a little too quick as he hit his head, but it gave him something else to focus on other then his damned stomach. After a moment or two, he felt someone tap him on his shoulder, and he partially opened his eyes to see who it was, finding The Doctor standing there "Just sit tight sir.” Samuel smirked slightly, “I don’t think I’m in a condition to argue with you…” “Order whoever's driving this thing to hurry up." Samuel nodded, and smiled.
Samuel felt very odd, his stomach was burning, and his chest was beginning to feel very tight. It wasn’t as if he was having difficulty breathing, but the actual muscles themselves around the ribs and such, even his lungs, were in pain. He’d lost all feeling in his left leg (which with it broken the way it was, wasn’t exactly a bad thing) and even his bowels were beginning to tingle, and his vision started to get blurry. The worst part was, Samuel knew exactly what was going on, and he fought hard, hard, to keep his composure; the virus was beginning to ‘break down’ his internal organs.
As if echoed through kilometers of caves, he heard a second voice “Hey mate you ok? You look like hell.” A voice he knew well, and he smiled again, even though the way he was feeling gave him nothing to smile about. “I feel like I was just in a prize fight with an expert brawler,” he looked up at Zek through bloodshot eyes, “not like you’d know what that was like Beaks; you always were more interested in the ‘ring girls’…” he grinned, his white teeth stained with blood from his mouth. “Just milking it huh?” Sam started to laugh, the knowledge that his best friend was with him always made him feel better, then he coughed, hard, and covered his mouth with his hand; which was red with blood and spittle. In embarrassed frustration, he simply growled.
After a few short minutes, the poor shuttles engines being pressed to the max without care of damage, the shuttle arrived aboard The Cold Harbor; the heavily battle damaged ship still in one piece, but showing she gave as good as she got. Once docked in the Hanger Bay, he, along with the other critical injured, were transported directly to Sickbay. With the help of the narcotics and medicine Sabina had kept him pumped up with, he was holding his own, but the infection hadn’t slowed; the pain of its affects were simply being treated.
With the help of some of the nursing staff, Colonel Grant was quickly whisked away to a private surgical bay, his peach skin now a ghastly gray, as even the blood cells were being attacked. He fought, time and time again, against unconsciousness, his eyes kept closing but he’d jerk himself awake and end up wide-eyed. He saw Sabina coming into the room where he was, and saw her adorning a clean surgical jacket, "Sir, do you want Zek to be here for this?" His peripheral vision had darkened so much, he’d forgotten Zek had come into the room with him. “No.” He said simply, as it had begun to hurt to talk, “Go limp out there and try to be useful…” he hacked again, and his hands were covered in dark red blood and a greenish flem “Find out if Tyler’s still alive, if not; you’re in command…” with that, Colonel Grant collapsed on the bed, barely able to remind his body to breath.

Zek saw the world start shimmer out of existence, and knew that in all likelihood he was being transported to Sickbay. Zek smiled in relief to be back aboard the Cold Harbor. Sabina wasted no time in taking charge "Get the Colonel to a private surgical ward. Zek, I'll give you all the pain relievers you want if you keep an eye on the Colonel until I can get Bob's condition stabilized. If anything happens that doesn't look good, activate the EMH." Zek smiled “No need to resort to bribery, smy job” Zek hobbled into private surgical bay after the nurse and his friend. Bear wasn’t looking well at all, his skin was turning an inhuman shade of grey/green. Sam kept fighting against unconsciousness, his eyes kept closing but he’d jerk himself awake and end up wide-eyed. “Hey, take it easy Bear, Doctor Jackson will be here in a minute, she will fix you up good as new.” Zek smiled, trying to be confident for his friend.
Zek looked over when Sabina entered the room, worry written all over his face, Sam had taken worse beating then this, why was this one different? Why was Sam so ill? From a security standpoint he was worried that during the fight, the drone leader somehow infected him with nano-probes. He had no idea if those drones had the same assimilation techniques as there augmented brothers. Maybe this was how they did it, infect one member and send him over to his ship ill, the doctor goes to treat him and he spreads the disease. Zek prayed that wasn’t the case, maybe he was just being over paranoid. "Sir, do you want Zek to be here for this?" Zek was already shaking his head ‘no’ when Sam responded “No.” He said simply, “Go limp out there and try to be useful…” he coughed, and his hands were covered in dark red blood and a greenish phlegm “Find out if Tyler’s still alive, if not; you’re in command…” Zek hesitated; he’s previous thoughts still swirling around his head, would his friend be a danger? Zek had his responsibilities; he would notify his officers and the marines that were still guarding sickbay to keep an extra eye out. “Yes sir” Then turned to Sabina “My officers are still outside if you need anything” Zek threw a significant look over to Sam, and turned to leave. Once out in main sickbay Zek saw that the nurses and the EMH were working at a frantic pace trying to treat the numerous casualties that littered sickbay, the EMH scanned him, administered more pain meds and proceeded to repair his damaged leg.
His leg was still a little tender when he left sickbay, but it was manageable, and he only walked with a slight limp as he made his way up to the bridge.

Sabal followed Bob on his orders to help make sure the craft was space worthy. And despite the lack of drones since leaving the secured room, Sabal wasn’t at all surprised to see four drones awaiting them inside the shuttlecraft, Bob doubled over the first drone, the other drones were pushing past there comrade, Sabal grabbed one around the neck with her good arm, satisfied to hear and feel the crunch of its neck breaking and tossed it aside. She ducked as a rush of feathers came down next to her, ‘good one more down’ she added to herself before she grabbed the next drone by the chest augments and hurled it across the hanger bay, it slammed against the wall with a sickening thud, and fell to the floor unmoving.
They all clamored onto the shuttle and Sabal found a soft spot on the floor out of the way while the shuttle lifted off the deck. Once they were a safe distance, Bob self destructed the outpost, the shuttle rocked, but Nick expertly kept the craft under control. Sabal felt a sudden rush of pain, not hers, but someone in her proximity was in great pain, she looked around in time to see Bob collapse. Dr. Jackson and the new Nurse rushed to his side, and Sabal knew he was in good hands. They arrived at the Cold Harbor in no time, Dr. Jackson transported herself, the Colonel, Zek, and Bob to sickbay as soon as they were in range. When the shuttle docked they all filed out, Kael suggested that Khrys help out in sickbay, while she escorted Nick and Maggie up to the bridge to report to the XO. As they turned to leave the hanger bay Sabal spoke up “I’m assuming my skill will be best served in engineering. Please let XO Tyler that if he needs me I’ll be there assisting in repairs.” Sabal figured that if they needed anyone at the conn, Nick was up to the task, and with Bob incapacitated they needed all hands on repairs. Once she arrived in engineering she reported to the officer in charge, and he set her to work.

As Zek makes his exit at the request of the Colonel, she looks back to make sure he goes. “Don’t worry about him, I’ll put everything to rights. Make sure no one bothers us in here- it’s classified. The EMH is out there to fix your leg.” Sabina tries to hide the shock and panic in her expression when she sees how fast Colonel Grant’s health was failing. She knew she didn’t have very long. However, she tries to sound as confident as possible. Part of being a successful doctor was believing that you could do anything. But the reality was often not the case. She would do her best- she was not one to pass up a challenge or give up on a difficult situation.
When the door to the surgical bay closes, she turns on the biobed. Colonel Grant had passed out, which worried her even more. She gave him a sedative so she could perform the necessary surgery without him waking up in pain. She takes a look at the scans on the biobed first and sees that the virus is causing organ failure. She activates the emergency life support functions of the bed so they would take over his vital functions if the damage continued too far. Then she slides on a pair of gloves and a mask and gets to work.
She quickly gets the fabric of his pants leg out of the way so she can see the damage done. First she sterilizes the area around where she is going to make the incision to prevent infection. She grabs a laser scalpel from the cart and opens up his leg to reveal the implants that filtered his blood. Since there hadn’t been time to replace the original implant, it was still the Borg style one. She looks at it, at a momentary loss to know what to do to fix it. To buy herself some time, she sets up a virus removal system using old fashioned needles and a Federation designed filtration device similar to what was used for dialysis back in ‘the old days’ before organ regrowth medical technology had been perfected. She gives him a dose of lectrazine to counteract kidney and heart failure. She also gives him a few cell regeneration medications, since it definitely couldn’t hurt after the virus’s run of damage. Then she takes her time to fix the implant. It was important to do things right.
Once she is confident that the implant is functional again, she begins to fix his broken leg. The fibula was broken clean through and the tibia had a hairline fracture. It must have been difficult to walk on even with a splint, she thinks to herself. It had been exacerbated when he had walked to escape, but it was necessary and certainly not beyond her ability to fix. She uses the osteogenic stimulator to repair the broken leg bones and then she begins to reclose the incision using the autosuture. She’s relieved to have finished the hard part without him crashing on her. Breathing a sigh of relief, she takes stock of what other injuries he had sustained.
Since he had sustained considerable organ damage, she hooks him up to as many regenerators and tissue stimulators as he needed. While they work, she sets and repairs his broken collarbone and ribs. With all of the various cell repair and growth going on, she imagines that he’ll be pretty hungry when he wakes up. She gives him antibiotics and an antiviral drug to prevent new infections. She doubted that they’d help with his initial virus problem- or he wouldn’t still be infected- but he’d still be protected in his already weakened state. The last thing she does is heal the worst of the bruises and cuts. She checks the monitors and puts away the various regenerator devices. She’d done all she could… now all she can do is hope he woke up and that he didn’t have permanent damage.
Since his blood was contaminated with the virus, she is very careful with cleaning up. Once the area was clean and the equipment sterilized, she puts her gloves, mask and lab coat in the recycler. She couldn’t exactly leave anyone on the medical staff alone with him or they’d easily find out the classified ‘problem’ he had. To solve this problem, she sets a monitor to alert her if anything changed for the worse in his vital stats and puts the pager-like alert device in her pocket. She pokes her head out into main sickbay and sees that nothing new had gone horribly wrong. The security folks were outside the door. “Hey guys… I need to take a shower and change, so keep him company. Tell the bridge that the Colonel's condition is serious but stable. If you know what’s good for you don’t ask questions or get nosy.” She sees Nurse Khrys helping out and goes over to her. “I appreciate your help earlier. As you can see, there’s plenty of patients. If you start getting tired, please find a bed. Take care of yourself first. You can sleep in my office or even in my quarters if you’d like until you’re assigned quarters.”
Sabina desperately needed to clean the filth of her ordeal off. There was a shower in sickbay for the use of long term patients, etc. She takes a fast, but wonderful feeling shower and puts on a clean uniform. She gets a sandwich from the replicator in her office. She nods to Khrys and the other nurses who are making rounds on the patients who had to stay in sickbay on her way back to the Colonel’s room. She settles into a chair that she scoots up to the side of the bed. She was intending on making sure he woke up first of all, and secondly, that no one else found out about what Colonel Grant wanted to keep secret. She yawns and waits for him to wake. It was uncertain how long it would take for the sedatives to wear off. She didn’t care right now if anyone else wanted to see her about the being captured thing or for anything else- her first duty was to her patients. Sabina yawns again and slowly nods off into a light sleep, exhausted from her stressful ordeal and the long surgery.
