Sabal was in the cargo bay with Felyn, settling her in after her side trip to Fluidic Space; thankfully she made it back with no problems, but was a little cocky about that fact. The last few weeks had been relaxing; Sabal had kept to herself while the Mechanicum repair teams took over in engineering. But as Colonel Grant voice came over the comm. Sabal was reminded that it was time to get back to work. She left Felyn with a bucket of food and promised to return later, only to be rebuffed, “I can take care of myself.” Sabal rolled her eyes as she left, Felyn was about the age of a human pre-teen, and was going to be an increasing handful as time progressed.
Sabal entered the observation lounge, ducking under the door frame; she sensed a new ‘mind’ in the gathered senior staff. She looked over at the newcomer a small famed human female; she must be the new marine commander, Sabal nodded to her, wondering how she would take the presence of a member of Species 8472 on board. As far as Sabal knew Starfleet hadn’t classified the exchange of personnel but since it was a controversial and possibly dangerous decision they weren’t broadcasting it across subspace. Sabal walked over to an open place at the table and sat on her bent rear leg.
Sabal listened to the mission, not having any questions to add. She knew that the Colonel would probably have her and the fighters run patrols, and anything other than that he would request personally. Sabal liked the idea that the species involved wasn’t a member of the Federation, which allowed her to probe their minds without permission, if they had minds capable of such a thing, damn Ferengi... By the sounds of them, Sabal could be an asset to the ground teams; she would have to talk to Marine Commander when she got a moment. A little forewarning of an ambush as well as Sabal’s other Psionic combat abilities could come in handy to the mission. Sabal was sure that the Colonel had considered this and that was why Sabal was here.

“Any more questions?”
Bob finished up a couple of notes he was taking then asked “Any recorded or observed technological/spacial anomalies in the area that could be responsible for the disappearances or lack of communication?”

Ahn is surprised when she sees a species 8472 walk into the briefing. She'd seen pictures when she was in training, but she was surprised and curious all the same. This one wasn't acting hostile or anything, so she grins like a kid on Christmas in return to the nod and wonders to herself what one was doing aboard, exactly. She rather hoped that she was a fighter... she certainly looked like a dangerous fighter, at least.

He listened intently as the Colonel answered each question that was asked to the best of his knowledge, his interesting raising slightly as he answered his own "“Unfortunately, your guess is as good as mine. Granted, The Saber class vessels are not ‘ships of the line’ and intended for heavy fleet actions, but they’re not shuttles either; it seems odd one would simply ‘blow up’ without an exchange of fire or any distress calls…” He nodded thoughtly as the Colonel looked around the room again, “Any more questions?”
Hmm, mysteriously blow up without any cause, exchange of fire or a distress call being sent? "Perhaps an internal malfuction that is a separate incident?" He asked, turning his attenton to the door for a moment, seeing Sabal entering. Catching her eyes for a brief moment, he would nod a silent greeting to her, adding a friendly smile, before returning his attention back to the Colonel

“Any recorded or observed technological/spatial anomalies in the area that could be responsible for the disappearances or lack of communication?” Colonel Grant shook his head, “None reported Chief. Sensors and Scans show all good transmissions and clear sending, and receiving, although, we’re just not getting anyone to answer…” "Perhaps an internal malfunction that is a separate incident?" Grant turned and looked at Grax, “Maybe, but there’s no sign of it. That Saber Starship had over 13,000 light years on it; I’d hate to think it was tried and true and suddenly had that level of a failure.”
He looked around, to see if anyone had anymore questions, once he was sure there were none, he continued. “We’ll make best speed, Slipstream 2, and be there in just over 18 ½ hrs. We’ll drop out of Slipstream just before the system, go in at Red Alert, and take a look around. Sabal, standard CAP duty. Deploy your fighters in to two groups, and scout around. Our first order of business is to secure The Harbringer. Captain Zek’dyn, get your people ready for ship defense. Sgt. Major, you’ll beam over to The Harbringer and insure that the ship is secure, the Chief Murkeye will beam over and download the computer core. While they’re doing that, we’ll scan the debris field and see what, if anything, we can dig up.” He breathed in, and retrieved his PADD. “Once The Harbringer is secured, we’ll move to the planet and start our search. Questions?”
Again, waiting to see if there were anymore questions before finishing, he looked around and said “Alright, lets get to work.” Colonel Grant stood up from the table, “Dismissed.”, and watched as the Officers began filing out of the room.
Walking onto The Bridge, he watched as Lt. Taylor took his place at the Helm, and sighed inwardly; he still wasn’t sure about him. Regardless, he was his helmsmen, by defecto and orders of CRV Command. “Helm, Mr. Taylor, bring the engines on line, engage thrusters and get us clear of the dock master and The Mechanicum. Once clear, plot course to the Almata Sector and engage Slipstream engines.” Colonel Grant took his seat, and began reviewing the information that was beginning to scroll through his arm consoles.

OOC Note:
Even though I may put down that he ‘waited to see if there were anymore questions before continuing’, and then continue to write, please know that you may always BACK POST the question, and I’ll BACK POST to answer it. I may move the story ahead to keep things moving, but the more information and more fluff there is, the better and more realistic the story is; which is the idea. We can always back post, just ask or note it, as some people may not be able to check the boards for a week or so, then come back and feel completely left out; we’ll always go back!

Bob listened, frowning, “So basically we don’t know the danger level, the cause, or pretty much anything, am I right?” Bob didn’t really wait for an answer it was a rhetorical question “You know I can make a sophisticated probe that will gather much more information then Star Fleet has just given us… But no, they need to send 800 and some people in just for chum purposes. Nice…” Bob shook his head, once the meeting was adjourned, “I’ll be in engineering, ‘preparing’ for my exciting away mission to download a computer core, if anyone needs me look there.”
Bob left and took the turbo lift down to engineering, giddy about getting back into the swing of things, he made a beeline for his office and started packing his seashell covered lucky tool box. Bob crammed everything in that thing, including a few extra ‘gadgets’ that just may come in handy if they got into trouble. Bob just smiled to himself.

Time Advancement: 30 minutes out from Almata System
Location: Main Bridge
Colonel Grant sat looking at the view screen, watching as the blue funnel haze rotated randomly as the ship passed through slipstream, occasionally tinting the blue with hazes of green. Every know and then, he looked down at an offered PADD and the system controls, then back up again, trying to keep an eye on everything at once. Off to one side, standing near a console and another officer, was Lt. Tyler, the ships XO, and appeared to be working on something. Colonel Grant noticed Captain Zek’dyn on the bridge as well, and noticed a look on his face that he knew well.
“I know that look Captain,” he said plainly “I feel it too.” He noticed that the ETA was down to just under 30 minutes, which meant it was time to start getting ready. “If you would, put your teams on Alert Level 2, and station them at their standard points. Have Sgt. Major Lau prep two squads for quick deployment once we arrive, and have a the rest of her teams stand by to assist you; make sure she has a medic go with them.” Seeing Captain Zek’dyn nod, and then depart, he keyed a few commands into the console and spoke aloud “All hands, we are preparing to enter the Almata System; Red Alert.”
The klaxons sounded across the ship, bringing the shields on-line and charging up phasers, he looked back to his head Science Officer, and smiled as he found Kael attending her station with all the professionalism of a Starfleet Officer “Lieutenant, maximum sensor sweep as soon as we come out of warp; the best range and strength as possible, if you please.” He activated a few more commands, opening a communication channel “Colonel Grant to Sabal; prep your fighters. You’re up in 20 minutes.”
Getting the ‘all alert stations manned’ nod from his Tactical Officer, he refocused on the mission at hand, and smirked slightly, happy to be back at it again. “Once more unto the breach…” he spoke softly. It was only minutes now before they came out of slipstream and were on scene, and had to try and figure out just exactly what had happened.

As the briefing ends, Ahn gets up and goes over to the big bird (aka Zek). She holds her hand out and smiles cheerfully, "Hi, you must be Captain Zek'dyn. I'm Sgt. Maj. Lau Ahn-chi, but you can call me Ahn." It didn't take a genius to guess that they'd probably be working together a lot; and besides, she was just curious and friendly in general and wanted to get to know him.

When the meeting was concluded Zek rose and slid his chair to the conference table. He was approached by their new Marine commander "Hi, you must be Captain Zek'dyn. I'm Sgt. Maj. Lau Ahn-chi, but you can call me Ahn." Zek smiled and returned her handshake, “That's me, please call me Zek, and I’m pleased to meet you Ahn. I have been meaning to speak with you since you came aboard, my apologies for the delay.” Zek hoped he didn’t mangle her name, and privately said it to himself a few times so he could wrap his beak around it. “I would like to get our teams together for some training exercises, one of the problems we have had in the past is communication issues between security and the marine squads and when they had to be combined because of lack of personnel, leadership styles conflicted and added to the confusion.” Zek knew that a lot of the problems created by the last mission were due to inexperience and fear, but there wasn’t much he could have done to prevent the tragedy. “One can never be over prepared, and I believe having the marines and security train together would open up opportunities for mixing the talents of both parties when specific situations arise” . Plus he was curious about this woman, he had read her file before she came aboard, according to that she had extensive melee weapons training, Zek’s favorite fighting style, especially since he carried his nature made weapons with him at all times, he hoped he could pick up some tips from her. “I have my teams hitting Holodeck 002 at 0400 if you would care to join us?”

She nods in response to Zek's suggestion to combine their teams for training. "That's an excellent idea... it's always better when everyone works together. I'll tell my people to be ready at 0400." She follows him out of the briefing room. "I'll go continue to make preparations, unless there is anything else you need... Zek? She tests out the name, not sure if he wanted 'sir' or 'Zek'. She thinks he seems fairly informal, like herself.

Zek stood on the bridge glancing between his padd, containing his team deployment plan for this mission, and the view screen. He was giddy, that nervous excitement before a mission, but with years of professionalism and poker had hardened his ‘game’ face “I know that look Captain,” well at least to most people, “I feel it too.” Zek just smiled and threw a wink at Sam, then reassembled his features to their normal eagle stare. “If you would, put your teams on Alert Level 2, and station them at their standard points. Have Sgt. Major Lau prep two squads for quick deployment once we arrive, and have a the rest of her teams stand by to assist you; make sure she has a medic go with them.” Zek nodded and turned to the turbolift, he was heading for the cargo bay where his teams were assembled and waiting for his final orders.
Location: En-route to Cargo Bay
On the way Zek called Ahn “Captain Zek’dyn to Sgt. Major Lau, prep two of your squads for quick deployment have at least one medic with you and make sure Chief Murkeye is all set to go with you, our ETA to the planet is 30min, the Colonel wants you deploy once we arrive, have the rest of your teams standing by just in case you or I need backup.” Zek was confident that Ahn knew what to do, they had gone over this plan several times earlier, but Zek was in all business mode, he didn’t care if he sounded like a broken record, he wanted to make sure everything was covered. Zek stopped by his office on the way to the cargo bay and strapped on his favorite phaser riffle.
Location: Cargo Bay
Upon arriving at the cargo bay, Zek smiled, everyone was there, in line, standing at attention, and this gave Zek a good feeling about this mission. In the last mission everyone was shorthanded and disorganized, this time they were starting out on the right foot, ship in tip top shape, fully crewed, well trained, and prepared. “Alright everyone we are at Alert Level 2, everyone proceed to your assigned defense points, Sgt. Major Lau will be departing with two marine squads, so teams in the transporter room and shuttle bay be prepared to assist her and her marines in anything that they need to make their departure run smoothly and efficiently. Any questions?” Zek didn’t expect any, this was a well rehearsed plan up to this point, and after receiving no questions, “Alright everyone, be safe, Alpha team your with me to the bridge, dismissed.” Zek un-holstered his phaser rifle from in-between his wings and gripped it firmly, he marched his way back to the bridge with team Alpha in tow.
Location: En-route to Main Bridge
Once they arrived at the Bridge Zek positioned himself just behind the Colonel and First officer while his team positioned themselves at strategic points around the room. They were close now, minutes away, Zek’s acute ears heard Sam speak softly “Once more unto the breach…” Zek smiled and finished the quote “Or close the wall up with our English dead. In peace there's nothing so becomes a man, as modest stillness and humility; but when the blast of war blows in our ears, then imitate the action of the tiger: Stiffen the sinews, summon up the blood.”

USS Cold Harbor Story / Action The Alma System; a solar system that contained 5 planets total, only one of them being a Class M, Alma 5. Alma 5 support a population of around 3.7 Billion Almatan’s, which is around 500 million less then there were before The Dominion had come and conquered the planet. Alma 5 had three moons, two of which support small military and research outposts, and were supplied by the Almatan’s space program, even though they still only supported a few meager starships, never rebuilding, or creating, new warships after their losses during the Dominion War. As the Cold Harbor dropped out of Slipstream, their sensors would easily pick up the Harbringer, drifting aimlessly in space. She still showed her systems powered up, but initial sensor scans showed no life aboard the ship, it was also at Condition Green, and showed no signs of combat. Much closer to the Planet, Alma 5, was the debris field of the destroyed starship; it to returned no life signs, no life pods, nor did it loose any secrets about what had destroyed it. The surrounding space returned no contacts either, and it appeared that it was only The Cold Harbor and the Harbringer.

With a soft shutter, caused only for the basic fact that an Excelsior wasn’t built for the stress of Slipstream, The Cold Harbor returned to its comfortable speed of full impulse; the soft blue ‘hue’ of the slipstream engines cooling off the nacelles.
“Alright people, look sharp.” Colonel Grant said to his Bridge crew, then activated communications “Colonel Grant to Sabal; launch your fighters.” He looked back to his Helmsmen, and nodded, as Taylor was already entering in the coordinates to pull-a-beam of the Harbringer. Activating communications again “Grant to Away Teams 1 and 2, prepare for departure in 3 minutes.” His freshly appointed MCO was leading the team, with Chief Murkeye in tow, he was keeping Captain Zek’dyn aboard to protect The Cold Harbor, which he specialized in.
Kael, performing her scans as expertly as could be expected, dug up nothing new on the Federation Ship; it showed full power, no damage, yet no life signs either. Colonel Grant tapped several keys on his counsel, and reviewed the returns; all dead quiet, it irked him bad. There were several ‘distortions’ around the debris field of the destroyed Saber Class Starship, but nothing that could be singled out. “Mr. Grax, please keep a manual firing solution plotted, but keep the weapons ‘targeted’ away from the field.” He then added “Primary tactical overlay on Screen please.” The Main Viewer, quickly changed to a checker board of hexagon sections, showing four items; The Cold Harbor, Almata 5, The Harbringer and the debris field from the destroyed ship.
He looked over Captain Zek’dyn again, locked eyes with him, and looked back at the abandoned ship. Being in range, he heard the shields lower just long enough for the transporters to energize and beam the away team aboard The Harbringer, then quickly the shield re-powered. “Okay…” he said to no one in particular “I’m open for suggestions…”
He waited for his bridge crews ideas, and or any information from the Away Team, and he kept glancing at the tactical overlay that was on the Main Viewer.
