"Lieutenant? Are you ok?"
Kael started at the light touch on her arm. And nodded slightly. She could feel the hot flush on her face from her emotional reaction to the Drak inside. But she had no desire to talk about it with him. Or with anyone for that matter. A couple walked by and Kael glanced at the two as they passed. The woman looked human, the male however was anything but. He appeared to be a giant feline. She dropped her gaze to the floor until they had gone in before finally replying to Nick's inquiry.
"I'm fine, just a little warm. I probably drank the wine a bit too quickly." Kael forced a smile, fairly certain he would not believe it.
"Perhaps we should pay a visit to the sickbay?" he suggested.
A sarcastic laugh bubbled up from Kael, "I doubt there is anything they can do for me in sickbay.
"Well, then maybe you could just keep me company. I've been getting some threatening messages from the Chief Medical Officer regarding the fact I have been avoiding my physical. Mind tagging along? Help me keep my mind off the torture?" He flashed another of his trademark lopsided grins.
She eyed him for a moment and then with a deep sigh, agreed.
The two walked along towards the sickbay in relative quiet for most of the way, until Kael asked Nick, "The officer that entered the Mess right before we left, have you ever seen that species before?"
"The overgrown cat?" Nick replied, "Nope. Don't know a thing about them. Why do you ask?"
Kael shrugged, "Just curious about them I guess."
"Why do you care?"
"Why don't you?"
"It's not fair to turn my question back on me!"
She laughed, "I thought humans were explorers. With indominable spirit or whatever."
He held his hands up in a stop gesture, "Whoa, whoa. Don't go stereotyping the entire human race. Some of us are cavorting ne'er do wells you know!"
"Indeed." her tone of voice held obvious disdain.
"It was a joke Lieutenant."
"And it was supposed to be funny because it was true. Anyway, it's sad that you have had so many opportunities and yet you can't see beyond yourself. I've been given a second chance and I intend to take every opportunity to learn and see as much as I can."
He couldn't even be offended by her comment, he knew the truth of it himself and somehow found her idealism to be endearing. So he said nothing as they entered the sickbay and looked around.
"Hello?" Nick called out, "Anybody here?"
Pausing only briefly he quickly turned and said, "Oh well, no one home. Guess we can come back another time."
She shot him a "Nice try" look and walked farther into the room and called out, "Doctor?"
