Full Name: Theodore James
Gender: Male
Age: 34
Species/Race (if applicable): Human
Physical Appearance:
Theodore is 5 foot 10, although he considers himself to be well over 10 feet tall. His weight is around 240 lbs, however his frame carries it well; by no means overweight or fat, but not a body of a wrestler either, its easy to see he’s lived a pretty good life and taken care of himself. He has a mustache that extends past his lips on either site, away from his face, that he trims every couple days; a relaxing routine of his. His eyes are a dark, dark blue and his hair is a brown, although trimmed, it is parted down the left side.
Below the facial hair, and over a lot of his body in general, are multiple scars from his life, most notably is; a laceration caused by a sward slash to his face, going from his right ear down across his face, down his neck and onto his upper chest.
Rank/Profession/Title:
Former Major in the Alliance Military; 26th Corp, 14th Division, 3rd Brigade, Infantry Stormtroopers
Currently a ‘Freelance Enforcer’
Character Background/History:
Theodore was homegrown busy body for his younger years of life, however a lot of the time spent was fighting; anybody that needed “to learn a thing or two” as he put it. From the time he could read, he was taken with the thought of Humanity being the supreme and ruler of all He surveyed, initially land, then continents, planets, stars and beyond. Whether it was the Old United States from so long past, or the newly formed Alliance; he felt completely in awe of their ideals.
At the age of 16, lying on his application and running away from home, he joined the Alliance Military as a ‘rifleman’; just a basic foot slogger, in the hopes of heading off and doing some ‘great thing’ that would help the Alliance succeed against the traitors and the uninformed. It was during his initial time in boot camp that his trainers noticed, and began to respect, this kids dedication to the cause and absolution in its application. Had it not been for one of the trainers, one of his squad mates wouldn’t have made it out of training, mistakenly declaring in front of Theodore “This army stuff is going to be an easy gig for a couple years, then I can get out and get a real job!”; Theodore had spun on his ally, struck him in the face so hard it broken his nose and facture his left eye socket, and declared “Traitor! You’d steal the glory of the title ‘Alliance Veteran’ to sully-it for personal gain?! Such ideals are the decay of such great foundations!” and drew his training rifle, loaded as it was, and aimed it to kill him.
During the pacification wars, and the ensuing wars against ‘The Independents’, Theodore fought on, harder, tougher, grittier and more loyal then those that thought they were; constantly he could be found at the front with his men, his rank meant nothing other then he had more soldiers to order forward in the fight he was in. Over his 18 years in the service, he’d risen from the rank of ‘private’ all the way up through Master Sergeant, receiving special battlefield commission that jumped him up to an ‘Officer’ and Lieutenant (which was later affirmed by the governing body), to his highest rank held “Major”, where he was put in command of an entire Brigade (some 6,000 men and women); the particular divisions ‘Stromtroopers’.
It was during this position when things went ary for Theodore. In one of the last engagements of the official ‘war against the Independents’, his unit was tasked with eliminating a rebel leader barricaded up in his fortress on the out lying world of Perilious. Having a military force of only around 5,000 trained Independent soldiers, he wasn’t much of a theat as far as Theodore was concerned, his troops would easily take on odds of 2 or 3 to one and still come out victorious. However, mixed in with the recognized combatants, were over 25,000 civilians (just in close proximity) and the planets overall population of 500,000.
Although he enjoyed war, and combat, more specifically the nobility and righteousness of it, he was always saddened by the killing; especially of the loss of innocence. Voicing his opinion that he could take out the Independent leader without worry, but concern that the populace could be hard to control with the available military resources (as there was still a war, and generally an ‘occupation’, on), which would put his men and the expedition as a whole in jeopardy; the solution was horrifying, his commanders issued orders to bombard the outpost from space, send in his ground forces to ‘mop up’ and then leave the planet to its own devices, and if the population didn’t capitulate immediately, they’d be considered ‘enemy combatants’. It was easy to see that the military was getting sick of fighting these insurgencies and wanted to move on to more ‘glorious’ fights. In a move that stunned everyone around, for sectors away; Theodore refused.
Being educated in not only war, but the literal theory of war and its application, he saw this as entirely wrong; not to mention the fact that they were human. They may be on the wrong side, but opinions change; they were ‘his people’ by the stretch of the definition. Theodore was right on the ‘thin line’ between the enlisted and common solider and the officer cadre, his next promotion to Colonel would have pushed him over, so he didn’t see all the back door dealings, politicizing, under-the-counter hand shakes and such that showed how the government really did things; this was his first glimpse and it made him sick.
However, initially thinking it was only this 1 General that’d lost his mind, he drew his sidearm and aimed at his CO, declaring “In the name of God man? I decree this action ‘hereticus’ and hereby place you under…” he never got the sentence finished. He noticed another officer draw his sidearm, and a firefight ensued; eventually killing 3 of the 5 guards in the room, the other 2 falling wounded. The General had drawn his saber in time to catch Theodore off guard, causing the facial scar he now sports (with an honor he still finds himself proud with), but dropped him with a single shot to the head as he fell backwards, reeling from sword strike.
He was able to flee the General’s Office while there was still mass confusion, seeming they were aboard their troop transport ship, and steal a small shuttle to get away. Theodore wasn’t a runner, and would have fought a hundred men single handedly if needed, but he’d seen the orders in the General’s Office; which he’d opened and skimmed through. Seeing just hour corrupt they were, and determined to right the wrong and return the glory to his imperialist goals, he set off to fight his own personal war and reunite, hopefully, humanity under a banner of unification through choice; not simply through use of force. He is currently listed as a 'traitor and murder' among The Alliance Military upper-echelon, and has a warrant out for his arrest; not simply for his crime, but he’s not the first Officer to discover the ‘reality of politics’ and go ‘Independent’.
Character Attributes:
Theodore is a scraper, thus he’s excellent at fighting; although he prefers no specific style. If there’s only fists, he’ll pummel you, if there’s a chair to hit you with, he’ll crush you, if theirs a vehicle to run you over with, he’ll flatten you, if there’s a gun, he’ll shoot you; he’ll use whatever whenever a fight is needed.
His upper body is stronger then his legs, so he’s not the fastest runner out there, but can sprint a good 100 yard dash in no time. He generally is armed at all times, whether you see it or not. During a planned fight, he is often found with this Saber on his left side, its razor sharp blade and soft ‘energy signature’ always letting of a soft humming noise. His Officers large frame revolver, which was holstered on a hip holster on his right, had served him for over a decade; its mid-range stopping power unquestionable. Slung over his shoulder, or his back, was his ‘Riot Gun’ (shotgun), that was his primary weapon of choice (stormtroopers were notorious for getting in close at all times). Lastly, if possible and practical, a fragmentation grenade or two. Although he’s proficient with almost any weapons, he always preferred the above. On occasions, when not ready for battle, he often carries his revolver on a hip holster (or concealed), a 8 inch ‘trench knife’ in his boot.
He is also an Imperialist at heart. He is not opposed to the ‘ideal’ of The Alliance, as he believes all humans should be united under a single government so they can focus on their greater ambitions; united as a species. This comes two fold however, and often creates some hotly contested debates. He believes in unification as a species, and expansion into uncharted territories and also does not have a problem with using force, even against humans, to succeed in that goal. He finds that people that openly and confrontationally oppose unification are ‘traitors to their species’ and have no “right to stand in the way of humanity”. That being said, he has no problem with open debate and the questioning of expansionism, nor the fact that people protest against it; that freedom is what he loves about humanity. But he does believe in, what he refers to as the “innocence of ignorance”, thus if they can ‘reclaim’ those Independents through words and debate, then they should do so, and the public of dissident worlds who don’t know better, should not suffer the same as the openly and pure traitors.
Character Abilities (e.g. special abilitie/s, for whatever reason, that benefit the character…):
Theodore sports an uncanny and incredibly strong personality, inspiring those around him with his actions and his words; in debate he is flamboyant and overbearing, in battle he is inspiring and infallible.
He is an Imperialist and a Romantic, believing strongly in the expansion of humanity through almost any means and unification, but is too a flatterer and chivalristic.
Quick Draw (melee/range) and an expert swordsmen.
Inspires great things from those around him, either in combat or conversation; easily falls into the role of ‘leader’.
Character Flaws (e.g. special handicap/s of some kind, for whatever the reason, that negatively effects the character…):
His overbearing and strong personality also causes him to get into arguments often, with almost anybody over anything, and the majority of the time he feels he’s right and his opposite is wrong (regretfully, this is true the majority of the time, but not all).
Obviously, the down side of being Imperialist and Romantic need not be explained in detail; they’re self explanatory.
Does not do well, with bulky heavy weaponry, and ‘zero g’ combat.
Struggles with not being the one in charge, and voices such concerns constantly; not fearing rebuke or discontent (as he feels he’s right).
