About The LOST Initiative
If you have come to The LOST Initiative expecting this to be another RPG where you can either interact with or play your favorite LOST character, then you have come to the wrong place!
The LOST Initiative is a LOST-themed RPG and won't be just like the show. We are looking for players who are interested in developing a well written story with in-depth character development.
In this sim/RPG we are eliminating all the main characters from the crash of Flight 815. Seems like a crazy move, right? Well our reasoning was that the main characters are already developed and have done almost all there is to do. We want to give people a chance to take the setting of the LOST storyline and play within that universe. Creativity and unpredictability are going to be key in this game.
As an additional dimension we are attempting to blend RPG writing with RPG gaming. What we mean by this is that there are opposing factions, just like in LOST. Also like LOST, the players will not know which side is which. As your characters move through the game, they will eventually become aligned with one side or another. Your character's actions and decisions will determine that alignment. Each faction has it's own objectives to achieve and ultimately the end game will be determined by which team achieves their objectives first.
What we hope results is an RPG that embodies the greatest things about the LOST series. The mystery, the rich storytelling, and the struggle between two forces.
The way we have designed this game will allow for LOST fans and those unfamiliar with the LOST universe to play and write side by side. No knowledge of the LOST series is required to be able to join and enjoy The LOST Initiative.
The LOST Intiative's unique structure:
The thing that makes our structure here unique is that instead of the player being led through a story, they will be given objectives to try to accomplish. The Sim Master's job will not be to lead them through a pre-planned story, but to give the players opportunities to discover answers to mysteries, achieve objectives, and develop their character. The specifics of the storyline will be mostly in the hands of the players.
Additionally, LOST fans and Non-LOST fans will be playing side by side. Anyone who is not familiar with the LOST universe will be placed as a Survivor while LOST fans will choose whether to play as a Survivor or as an Other. The interaction of these two groups will shape the over all storyline as well. Again the storyline will rest mostly in the hands of the players.
Another unique aspect of TLI is the game aspect. In the show we see the struggle between Jacob and his brother. In TLI these sides will remain but we will replace Jacob and his brother in order to obscure to the players which side is which. The sides will have their own objectives to achieve but these will be known only to the team leaders. As the story progresses, the characters will become aligned with a side. At the end of the day, there will be a side that wins. The question is, will you be on that side?
Finally we come to the topic of death. We are striving for a certain sense of realism, as well as trying to remain true to the LOST series. Because of these two things we have decided that death is an integral part of The LOST Initiative. We encourage you to remember this as you play. It means that at any time your character could die. Please don't hold on too tightly to your character and understand that if your character died, there was probably a purpose. With this in mind, we do encourage you (especially those of you playing Survivors) to create two or more characters if you feel capable of doing so.
Also, the actions of your character can potentially result in the death of another character. We don't say this to urge you to be careful. What we really want is for you to play your character true to the way you created them. If you create a character who has a jumpy trigger finger, and at some point you think they would fire a gun at someone, then write it that way. The Sim Master will have the final word as to whether or not those actions lead to someone else's demise.
