Medical:
The Mur'gul are a bipedal, amphibious, ichthyoid (fish-like) humaniod race residing along coastlines, lakeshores, riverbeds, and swamps. They possess bulbous bodies, large mouths lined with a row of sharp fangs, and slime-coated skin, which produces a mild fishy smell that some may find offensive. Individuals range in coloration from turquoise to darkish grey, and in height from 3 feet to 5 feet. They are extreemly intelligent and learn at an astonishing rate. They have suction cups on the bottoms of their fingers and toes (like a tree frog) and are able to walk on walls and ceilings. They have a dorsal fin, a tail fin, fins on the back of their arms and legs, and have small fins that cover their gills when out of the water; they also have webbed hands feet. They need to be submurged in water for 6hrs a day, and only live for about 30 years. The Mur’gul speak fluent English although their accent has a very watery/bubbly sound to it. (Think of a Munchkin from The Wizard of Oz with a severe chest/head cold). Their native language is called Nerglish it is a very guttural language and is impossible to decipher, even by the universal translator. Bob has a tendency when he gets angry to lapse into his native language for a long string of profanities. “Mggrrrrruuuglrwlrwlrwll!” For food Bob will breed live food in his living quarters, his favorite food type is Klingon, and Bob is very good at making most Klingon dishes, Gagh being his specialty.
Mur’gul Culture:
Mur’gul villages, despite their modern technology such as warp drive, are typically made up of a collection of rough mud-and-twig huts strewn about without pattern. Mur’gul villages will typically have no clear walkways and no fortifications. The huts are crude and plain, and the settlement is otherwise featureless. Most huts stand on stilts to protect them from the tides and flooding. In sharp contrast to their primitive exteriors, the interior walls of most Mur’gul huts are often elaborately decorated. Some depict branching coral while others are mosaics of shell and stone and others are surprisingly delicate tapestries of shaded seaweed. The huts are usually open to the air, with small wooden pillars to hold the roof. Mur’gul sleep in the water or on woven mats of seaweed, tied firmly to maintain their shape but so loose they look like small rectangular nets. Hooks of coral hold tools and other items on the walls or pillars. They are a Matriarchal society and the leaders of their schools (families) are called Shamans or “medicine woman”. Their schools (Families) usually contain about twelve Mur’gul. The males are in charge of all cooking and “bringing home the bacon”. At the age of two Mur’gul male children have to attend public education while the females have the choice of being “stay at home moms” in which case they will be home schooled, they can also chose to become an apprentice Shaman, or they can attend public education with the males.
Mur’gul History:
The Mur’gul originated in the Delta Quadrant on a class O type planet, which was 97% water. They lived in underwater citys called Ecodomes which had a swamp like atmosphere. Very soon after they developed warp drive they were attacked by a cybernetic race they knew nothing about, the Mur’gul are a peaceful race and new nothing of war. They lost 73% of their population in the first bombardment, shortly after the rest of the population fled their planet on 14 ships carrying 1000 schools each hoping to find refuge on another planet. They traveled for many generations and when they met the Federation there were only 2 ships left, they told the Federation their story and asked for asylum and the Federation granted it to them in the year 2338. Six schools, including the Murkeye family, decided to settle in a remote swamp in Mississippi, old United States, on the Terran home world, and ten schools settled in Louisiana. The rest decided to find another class O planet in Federation space and start rebuilding their culture there.
