Computer, Begin Colonel’s Log Entry: Stardate 65501.47,
Well, the time has finally come to depart Starbase 234 and proceed with our orders from CRV Command. Orders that in all honesty I believe contain only half the information that is actually available; which troubles me greatly.
The crew has done more then could have been hoped for under any normal circumstance. The Cold Harbor has been taken from the mothball derelict yard, and in under three weeks has been transformed into a space worthy vessel and is running at somewhere around 70% overall efficiency; I could not have hoped or dreamed for more. Although the final reports are still coming in, I find that I felt comfortable knowing that we have the ability to defend ourselves fairly well considering all that needed to be done.
I find that, even after hours and hours of reviewing my briefing material given to me by CRV Command, that there is much that we’re not being told. It is an odd order, I find, to “Investigate and at all costs report what you find…”, yet nothing else was given; no enemy information, no targets, no specifics, nothing. Simply a set of coordinates, the notification of a lost Starship and a Research Station that has gone silent. Something is very wrong here. In addition, CRV Command has deployed two additional CRV Starships with the sole purpose of ‘jamming’ communications; but haven’t disclosed who’s calling and who they’re calling for.
But, as the old solider adage goes, ‘we are not to ask why, only do and die’. I have the utmost faith in this ship, her crew and our ability to handle what we’re getting ourselves into, and will complete my mission. Per mission directives, we’ve also initiated a communications blackout and are ‘running silent’.
With current slipstream availability, we should arrive in about 12 hrs at the target sector. The fact that it is so ‘close’ and so ‘deep’ within the Federation’s Boarder is extremely concerning and I find that I have many more questions then answers.
Computer, End Log.
